A non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged students
The Avinya Foundation is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to assisting underprivileged students aged 17 to 22 who have abandoned the traditional higher education route. Our mission is to provide them with the opportunity to achieve life success by equipping them with essential 21st-century skills. Furthermore, we guide them into skills training programs that pave the way to the world of work.
Through our instructional method of project based learning, we strive to equip students with the necessary resources and tools to shape their futures, pursue their passions, and make a lasting societal impact through their unique talents.
Our academies aim to create a stimulating environment that welcomes and nurtures students, fostering an atmosphere that is unlike a conventional school setting. We strive to broaden perspectives and offer a unique learning experience.
Our students thrive in an educational experience that goes beyond the limitations of traditional methods such as subjects, fixed schedules, and regular exams. That’s why we embrace the power of project-based learning, creating an environment that inspires and motivates students to explore knowledge and develop essential life skills vital for their future success.
It all started early in 2022, when a small, like-minded team was put together by Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana. Of course, this idea had been taking shape and morphing into many patterns in his mind for quite a few years before this – like a puzzle slowly coming together over the years.
As we all got together and listened to him speaking passionately about the need to address a pressing issue in Sri Lanka’s education system, we were all inspired.
At the Avinya Foundation, we believe in the power of education to change lives.
Join our mission to empower underprivileged students in Sri Lanka by becoming a part of our “Gifts of Change” program.
Whether through financial support, partnering with us for job placements and industry training, volunteering your time in an area of expertise or sharing your knowledge as a guest speaker, there are many ways to make dreams a reality.
Together, as a community, we can make a lasting impact, for it’s the strength of people helping each other that fuels any great initiative.

Hi there,
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your interest in what we do.
With our 2026A batch now successfully wrapped up, we’ve decided to hit the pause button on new student enrollments for a little while.
Instead of jumping straight into a new batch, we want to step back, look at the big picture, and ask ourselves some honest questions about how we can serve our youth and our country even better.
🔹 Our Model
Is our current way of doing things truly the best path forward for our students?
🔹 Our Place
Is Bandaragama the right location?
🔹 Our Focus
Are we meeting the needs of the right age group (18–25), or should we adapt?
We know we can’t answer these questions in a vacuum. We want to talk to as many people, communities, and thinkers as possible. If you care about education, have a budding idea, or just want to lend some intellectual brainpower to the mix, we would honestly love to hear from you.
🟢[ Join our discussion group and think through this with us]
We will be back soon and resume operations in early 2027, stronger and more focused than before.
Thank you!.
