Avinya Academy in Bandaragama Celebrates Remarkable Achievements in Empower Program Showcase

COLOMBO, November 17, 2023 – Avinya Academy is thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the showcase event, which highlighted the remarkable achievements of the second batch of students participating in its Empower Program. Following the program’s successful launch on September 4, 2023, the enthusiastic second batch of students have completed a significant component of a transformative journey, actively engaging in acquiring essential 21st-century skills.

 

The event featured presentations, displays, and interactive sessions, allowing students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout the program via a unique gallery walk showcase. Parents, special guests, and fellow students took advantage of the occasion to inquire and gain a more profound understanding of the students’ learnings, nurturing enhanced communication.

 

The accomplished projects completed so far by students span a diverse array of skills, strategically designed to enhance core employability competencies.

 

  • My Digital Passport: A comprehensive exploration of the digital realm, revealing students’ prowess in digital literacy and their adept understanding of responsible online citizenship.
  • Face Your Face: A transformative initiative promoting self-expression and identity discovery through the artistic creation of masks, fostering creativity and communication skills.
  • Golden Rubbish: An environmentally conscious project exemplifying the significance of upcycling and sustainable practices, instilling in students a sense of environmental responsibility and innovation.
  • Project Runway: A dynamic fashion and design venture, spotlighting students’ creativity and cultivating a sense of professionalism and etiquette in the realm of fashion, thereby contributing to their overall employability skills..

 

Dinesha Senaratne, Head of the Empower Program, expressed her excitement about the showcase. She stated, “The showcase is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students. It’s not just about completing projects; it’s about demonstrating the real-world application of the 21st-century skills they’ve developed during the Empower Program.”

 

As Avinya Academy focuses not only on academic excellence but also on nurturing well-rounded individuals, the showcase event aims to raise parental awareness about the importance of 21st-century skills in shaping their children’s future. Parents had the opportunity to witness firsthand the growth and development of their children, gaining insights into the skills that are crucial for success in today’s competitive job market.

 

About Avinya Foundation

Established in 2022, Avinya Foundation (Gte) Ltd is a not-for-profit organization providing economically disadvantaged children an opportunity to become professionals via the alternative path of world-class education in 21st century life skills. Students have access to means-tested education, which includes both partial and full scholarships for those facing financial difficulties. 

The vision of the Foundation is to establish a network of schools around the country to provide geographically-accessible opportunities to students all around the country, one in each of the divisional secretariat areas. With the six-month course calendar cycle, each school will have a total of 240 students over a period of one year at full capacity. At full scale, the Foundation expects to provide opportunities to 20% of the over 17 student cohort each year to obtain a world-class alternative education pathway.

The members of the foundation are Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Dr. Tara de Mel, Anarkali Moonesinghe, Ashroff Omar, Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, and Kasturi Chellerajah Wilson. The board of directors are Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne and Ms. Thusitha Perera.
