At Avinya Academy Bandaragama, we believe that learning should go beyond the classroom. Last Friday was a powerful reminder of that belief as we set off on an inspiring journey to Brandix Essentials in Ratmalana for a very special Career Day dedicated exclusively to our students.
Excitement filled the air as we boarded the buses generously arranged by Brandix, who kindly provided transport for our entire group. This was not just another field trip — it was a milestone. It was the very first time we took our students out for a Career Day crafted just for them. For both students and educators, it was a day full of promise and potential.
The warm welcome we received at Brandix Essentials set the tone for the entire visit. Smiles, handshakes, and a genuine sense of hospitality greeted us as soon as we arrived. We were ushered into their spacious Conference Hall, where the day’s learning began.
Mr. Oshan, an experienced and energetic manager at Brandix, kicked off the session with a heartfelt welcome. His interactive presentation took our students on a journey through the world of Brandix, from its career pathways to its impressive national and international projects. His energy was contagious, and our students were engaged and curious throughout.
Then came a moment that resonated deeply with us all. Mr. Dushamantha, an assistant manager at Brandix, shared his personal story. His path wasn’t easy — he faced many challenges, especially during his early years. But through hard work, resilience, and belief in his dreams, he created a life and career filled with purpose. For many of our students who come from financially challenging backgrounds, his story was more than just inspiring. It was relatable and transformative. He showed them that dreams are worth chasing, no matter the obstacles.
The highlight of the day for most of our students came next — a guided tour of the Brandix facility. Under the kind supervision of Brandix staff, including Mr. Kapila, our students explored the production floor, observed the types of products made, and learned how they are crafted with care and precision. They got a first-hand glimpse into the routines, responsibilities, and teamwork that shape the working world. Mr. Kapila patiently answered all their questions and made sure each student felt seen and heard.
As educators, we were also struck by something unexpected — the building itself. Brandix Essentials in Ratmalana is Sri Lanka’s first certified green building. Its modern architecture is beautifully complemented by lush indoor plants that seem to thrive in harmony with the people who work there. The air-conditioned, naturally lit spaces created an atmosphere that was both
professional and peaceful. At Avinya, we cherish nature, and seeing how Brandix integrates greenery into its work environment was both impressive and inspiring.
This visit reminded us why we do what we do. At Avinya, we’re committed to giving hope, shaping vision, and changing lives. Brandix lives by its powerful motto, “We Strive For Excellence.” On this day, those two visions came together and created something truly meaningful for our students.
We are deeply grateful to the Brandix Essentials team for opening their doors and hearts to our learners. It was more than a Career Day. It was a day of discovery for our students as well as for us.
