Avinya Foundation

Series 2, Blog #18 – Career Quests, Festive Assemblies and Team Alchemy

Hi everyone,

A warm welcome to this week’s Avinya Chronicles! This is Isuru, and I’m thrilled to share the exciting highlights of this week at Avinya Academy. Let me take you on a journey through the enriching experiences and valuable lessons that our students enjoyed.

At Avinya Academy, we are committed to providing our students with a holistic understanding of the real world and the dynamic job market. This week, we rolled out the much-anticipated “Make Your Mark” project, serving as an ideal platform for students to explore career opportunities. Our dedicated team of educators imparted crucial skills in CV building, interview preparation, and the do’s and don’ts of the interview process. This project stands as one of the cornerstones of our commitment to shaping skilled and professional youth.

The Elephants wrapped up the year with a festive assembly featuring carols, quizzes, and breathtaking dance performances. The dance segment, in particular, left us breathless with its mesmerizing choreography and energy. It was a memorable celebration, capping off the year with joy and spectacular talent.

The excitement reached its peak on Monday with our Career Day, featuring participation from esteemed companies such as Pizza Hut, Dialog, Airtel, and Domex Courier Service. Students had the unique chance to interact with industry leaders, gaining insights into current job market trends. Many even seized the opportunity to interview for potential positions, paving the way for them to make informed decisions about their futures post-Empower programme.

On Tuesday, Avinya welcomed Ms. Starrina Perera for an insightful session on Anger Management and Emotional Understanding. Witnessing our students actively engage in role-playing and volunteering demonstrated the remarkable progress they’ve made. Simultaneously, Mr. Milinda Perera, an innovation and business development professional, brought a wealth of knowledge, offering a class-by-class session on mastering the often tricky question, “Tell me a little bit about yourself.” The newfound confidence among students was palpable, reflecting the impact of these empowering sessions.

As the academic year drew to a close on Wednesday, our students embraced the festive spirit with a screening of the classic “Home Alone” movie. To add to the joy, Mr. Christopher Dirk Barnet, the General Manager of Training and Development at Gamma Pizzakraft, delighted our winners with delicious pizzas from the competition held during his workshop last week. What better way to conclude an amazing year than with pizza, a movie, and the joyous spirit of Christmas?

Avinya Academy continues to be a hub of learning, growth, and empowerment for all our students and even the Educators. We encourage our awesome readers to stay in touch with us and share your thoughts on this incredible journey. As we bid farewell to the 2023 academic year, we extend our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you for being a part of the Avinya adventure.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the new year!

Thank you Isuru for the update on the Academic front!

As we wrap up the year, our excitement is at an all-time high with student recruitment in full swing and Christmas just around the corner! Every interview brings the promise of meeting new students who will soon become part of our Avinya journey and as a whole, it adds to the anticipation of 2024!

In our efforts to reach as many aspiring students as possible, our team has been visiting areas around the school. Our goal is to spread the word and make sure as many potential students as possible in the vicinity are aware about the opportunities available for them with us at Avinya. Our principal/campus lead, Ilma, has been working her magic and has some intriguing plans in the pipeline with the Bandaragama Divisional Secretariat. While the details are still under wraps, we’re excited about the potential impact and will share more about these plans, along with other exciting initiatives for the academy in the upcoming year.

Even though the students are enjoying their holiday break, the grind at our academy hasn’t stopped yet! Today, we dived into training focused on incorporating more language in the classroom, particularly in giving instructions. Isuru led a lesson in French, providing us with a firsthand experience of our students’ day-to-day perspective of learning through English in the classroom. Experiencing that light bulb moment was pretty eye-opening, giving us a firsthand taste of the daily struggles students go through. However, rather than being discouraged by the difficulties observed, it only doubled our determination to improve ourselves and in turn, support and guide our students on their learning journey. Through the next half of the training day, we focused on grading our language and instructions better through delving into the activities of the next project in line: My Company Pvt Ltd. We made additional adjustments in order to incorporate more language into the project and all in all, I think we all agreed that today marked one of our best training days yet!

While we’ll be taking a brief hiatus on the academic front, fret not – a new installment of the Avinya Scoop is in the works for next week! Be sure to tune in for our final chapter of 2023! Until then, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!
