Series 3, Blog #4 Opening Doors: Sensus BPO Visits Avinya Academy

Hi dear readers,

Another week has rolled about and the time has arrived for another exciting entry to our Avinya Impact. This week our Educator Anuki will take you through an update on the Interview day by our wonderful partner Sensus BPO Services (Pte) Ltd!—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
We’re reaching an exciting point here at Avinya Academy, the end of our first semester. Our students have come a long way, and now they’re getting ready for a big step: the NVQ Level 3 Customer Services Assistant Examination, followed closely by interviews for their upcoming internships. It’s a busy time, but also full of opportunity.

This week brought one such opportunity right to our doorstep. We had the pleasure of welcoming Sensus BPO to our campus, a respected Sri Lankan company with over a decade of experience in outsourcing services like debt recovery, customer support, and business analytics. They work with some of the country’s top names in banking, finance, telecommunications, insurance, and more. The company is known not just for what they do, but how they do it with professionalism, ethical practices, and a genuine focus on quality.

Mr. Mahesh Weerasena and Mr Nuwan mentioned that Avinya students, with the discipline, values, and skills they gain here are exactly the kind of young people they’re looking to bring into their team. It was a proud moment for all of us, hearing that our efforts are helping to shape students who are seen as ready for the professional world.

The Sensus BPO team didn’t just come for interviews, they came to guide and inspire. A vibrant group of professionals including Mr. Mishan, led a career guidance workshop that really struck a chord with our students. He spoke openly about the challenges and rewards of stepping into the job market, the importance of working while studying, and how to navigate the early stages of a career. Mr Priyantha also shared his wealth of experience by sharing his thoughts on the importance of career growth and perseverance.

One powerful moment came when he asked the students to write down what they hope to achieve in the next five years. This simple activity sparked deep thinking and meaningful conversations about dreams, direction, and what it takes to get there.

After the session, it was time to switch gears into interview mode. The Sensus team worked efficiently and thoughtfully, interviewing 41 students in just a few hours. Our students showed up well-prepared with their CVs in hand and confidence in their step. The interviewers were impressed not only with their readiness but also with the qualities they saw: curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

The day ended with everyone feeling good. The Sensus team felt positive about what they saw. Our students felt seen, heard, and hopeful. And we, as educators, felt a deep sense of pride.

We’re now looking forward to seeing some of our students take their first steps into the working world with Sensus BPO this July. These internships will offer them real-world experience, professional growth, and the start of what we hope will be long and meaningful careers.

Here’s to more days like this, full of learning, opportunity, and connection.
